*Sigh*
It’s Halloween and I have teenagers. It’s the first year I don’t have a little one to take trick-or-treating and I’m sad.
The funny thing is, I don’t really love Halloween, but as I look back over the years of my adult life, I sure have dressed up a lot for it! My kids, especially my son, have always loved costumes. And this year is the first year in 13 years that they aren’t dressing up.
You know, too cool for that...
So, for fun, I retrieved a few Halloween photos to share.
I was about 24 here. Dave is the caveman, then we have Stephanie, Tonya, and Heath. Yes, all proud military officers!
Oh, this is marvelous…
I am about 7 months pregnant with the twins here. A glorious cow. We took Dave’s Navy Whites uniform and removed all the insignia from it, then added the pail so he could be a milkman.
The twins are 5 in this photo and we are at a church Halloween event. Probably called a Fall Hoedown, because that it sounds more churchy. The story is that Mallory is Ariel and I couldn’t find a red wig anywhere until I found this one. Problem was, it had horns. Yes, a devil wig.
I tried to be discreet as I cut the devil horns off and softly moved the strands of hair around the open holes. Little did I know, she was secretly watching me and then loudly proclaimed, “I’m not wearing that! It’s devil hair!” No amount of explaining or coercion would sway her.
But later, Dave arrived at the hoedown with her (I had gotten there early) and she had it on! She smelled to high heaven of 5 different perfumes, to which Dave said, “She sprayed all your perfumes on it to get the “devil” smell out.”
Flash forward a couple of years and Riley was some version of a Star Wars character for 6 years.
And last but not least, Dave and I as pirates last week at a party. I suppose I’m the one who really loves costumes after all! Happy Halloween everyone!

This was the first year of no trick-or-treating for us too. My Sophmore son had no desire … and, unfortunately, the tween was down and out with the flu! So strange.
Love your trip down memory lane and so glad I had a brief opportunity to meet you at BBC Chicago today!
